Have you ever been in a position where you declare God’s presence in your life irrelevant? As harsh as it may sound, it is one place I have been in countless times. Those particular moments that you feel too ‘boss’ for any help from God. In fact, you give him the solution to your own problems because you are just too cool for this life. There are many times that I have been in a situation where I had a problem and even told God how, why and when he should cater for my needs. Sounds familiar? I have a friend who shared with me a sermon that she once heard, where the pastor mentioned that we sometimes turn ‘GOD’ into a ‘DOG’. We sometimes treat God as a Dog when we require him to fetch our needs. I am guilty of this. Time and time again, I have only sought his direction for my own selfish ambitions.
2 Kings 1:1-17 talks about King Ahaziah, who was King Ahab’s son and successor. He had an unfortunate accident whereby he fell from the lattice of his upper room and was injured. Many times we have fallen, from our own high places, and of course gotten injured, emotionally and mentally. It is a devastating feeling when you fall from grace. King Ahaziah, then told his messengers to go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron. But on their way, God sent a message through his prophet Elijah to the messengers saying, “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Because you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!” I am pretty sure King Ahaziah knew how God had been with his forefathers when he delivered them from Egypt and took care of them while they were in the desert till they reached the promised land. However, he chose the god of Ekron. He chose the wicked path that his father King Ahab had lived and therefore did not experience God’s divine healing and restoration. He missed out, and eventually died. (Vs 17)
That worries me, it really does. It’s frightening how we can plunge into spiritual death for simply not trusting God, the true God, with our issues. God is not a mean old man who will kill us if we do not trust him. It’s nothing like that. In fact, he loves us too much that he wants to be there for us when we are experiencing both good and bad times. People may forsake you when things are not working out in your life. But here is God, INSISTING on being there for you and giving you all that you need. God is our provider, but he simply requires one thing from us. That we trust him with all our issues. The god of Ekron may not necessarily be a literal idol in this present day, but it could be your misleading friends, boyfriend, girlfriend or parent. That person or thing that you first run to when you are facing a certain problem. As innocent as it sounds, it could even be the TV, or anything that draws you away from actually consulting God at the time.
A couple of days ago, I found out something that completely blew my mind. You know, there are times when praying or even reading the Word of God was so boring. I tell you! Those prayers you start just before you go to bed and end up saying ‘amen’ the following morning when God gifts you with life. Oh and the number of times that I have dozed off while reading the word, SMH! The enemy really had me trapped. But do you know it is God who gives you the desire to seek him? It’s so true… He draws you to himself, quite literally. He makes you passionate about seeking him; because he gives you a deeper understanding of his word. It took me so many years to reach that point, but it is attainable, and he wants every single person to choose him and draw near to him. Trust me, he absolutely loves it! He actually even ENABLES you to come to him. We agree that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, right? And that no one can come to the father except through Jesus? (John 14:6) But understand this, Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him”. See what I mean? May God ENABLE you to draw nearer to him.
It may seem easy to travel to a foreign land to consult Baal-Zebub, but that will just lead to spiritual death. We have the privilege of consulting God right where we are! A friend once told me, that the times I struggle to pray and seek God are the times that I am deeply under spiritual attack. The Devil seeks to steal your passion for God. He fills you with all kinds of lies to make you doubt God’s presence. But Our Loving Father is Spirit, and he works in the same way, IN SPIRIT! And that’s why he is seeking worshippers who will worship him in spirit(John 4:24). Because that’s his realm. When he commands his angels concerning you, he does it in spirit. When he blesses you, he does it in spirit as well. You then experience the physical manifestations of his blessings. I hope I am getting through to you. These are just things that God is revealing to me even now as I type this. I am not preaching to you, I am just sharing these divine revelations with you. May you understand them in the spirit, for that is where he dwells.
So am I discrediting the fact that you should consult other people or things for your needs? Nope! I am just saying that you need to set your priorities right. I speak deeper insight upon you. You are blessed, child of God!

Wow. Soo deep. What a word. Ministered to my spirit soo powerfully. My desire is to draw closer and closer to him. This piece carries alot of presence…. You have blessed me Mumbua. More grace to you.
Very interesting. A stark contrast to the King Jehoshaphat story. Just flipped to the story in 2 Chronicles chapter 20. The first thing the king did when he received the distressing news was to turn to God. In fact, verse 3 says he “resolved” to seek the Lord, an attitude we also saw in Daniel the prophet in Daniel 1:8. Appears to me a heart issue – where I ask myself, is my heart resolved to seek the Lord? Notwithstanding anything. Even if an answer from Him does not seem forthcoming ASAP. No wonder hymn writers wrote “long my imprisoned spirit lay,” “my hardened heart was touched,” “take my heart Lord, take and seal it, seal it from Thy courts above.”
Dear Lord, my you draw me close to you that i may consult you first in all aspects of this life!
