INTENTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

I have been so eager to write about this, there is so much need for our eyes to be opened up to the truth and reality of the matter. I have been wondering how I can put this across without sounding too uptight, but oh well, I pray the point comes across. I know for a fact that there are so many people who have settled and gotten comfortable in relationships that they should not be in in the first place. Relationships that are on murky ground with no proper foundation and establishment; those are the kind of relationships I mean. I used to be comfortable whenever a guy would tell me that dreaded statement,’Let’s just try this out and see how it goes’. And I would feel ‘safe’ knowing that I have someone that ‘loves’ me.

That shouldn’t be the way things go… People should date only when they have fully clarified their intentions, their purposes and goals for the relationship. That they are in it to win it; in it for the long run, for marriage! Anything other than that is simply a waste of time. I mean, what is the point of waiting to ‘see how things will go’ when you are not even sure what the outcome will be? Honey, just save yourself the heart break and pain of moving on when the relationship comes to a tragic end. You would rather have a mind and heart that is at peace than a pillow drenched in tears for nights on end. Don’t even get me started on how worthless, unwanted and hopeless you feel when you are dumped. Stick to the man or woman who is committed to you; who has clearly stated and defined their intentions so that your time, money and energy is not wasted.

With the immense outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit and the revival that’s going to hit us so strongly, it is no surprise at all that young people are currently being stirred up to have God fully present in every aspect of their lives; including their relationships. Young men and women will pursue focused, God-centered relationships and seek God’s direction and consent even as they head towards marriage. There is a great stirring to do things God’s way. A divine discomfort among young people to honor God through purity in their relationships.

We get so excited about a new relationship, and re-read messages that have been sent by our significant others. But we shall get so crazy reading God’s word, His word will be heavier than any rosy word that our partners can ever say. I am not saying it’s wrong to be all romantic, by all means go for it! However, God’s desire is that relationships are driven not by lustful love that seeks to satisfy fleshly desires, but a love so pure that will lead to intimacy that sexual relationships can never even break into. These are the kind of relationships that every Christian should have. I pray that this is your reality.

With love,

Mumbua 🙂

  1. Marriage is an institution ordained by God and that it starts from the point of a relationship means it should be done Gods way.
The excitement of getting into a relationship should not take the place of yielding to the Spirits leading. As Christians we must let God have His full reign over our lives.

There is no hierarchy to follow ati God then family then work etc. It’s family in God, work in God. Everything falls inside God, no hierarchical separations.

  2. I love it. Pursuing God should be what I do best and when God’s appointed time for me to have a hubby comes He will surely tell me. I will not settle for less because i know there’s more that’s in my Daddy.

  3. True.We are human beings and believe you me when the dopamine is up,you better be grounded on the rock of ages.Nice read.

  4. Amen! Amen & Amen. Never fear being called uptight if what you are standing for is according to God’s word.
Beautiful read! I really needed this. 😊

  5. very very true. its only that we don’t see it because we never seek God’s guidance while entering into relationships. We forget God who is love

    Jeremiah 29: 11-13
For I know well the plans I have in mind for you—oracle of the LORD—plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope.
When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will listen to you.
When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart,

    Proverbs 8:17
Those who love me I also love, and those who seek me find me.

    John 16:23-24
On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

  6. Trust me you didn’t sound uptight at all. I love what you said about the phrase ‘let’s try this and see where it goes’ and I just realized how much I have settled in the past. People should really get into relationship because they want to get married and thank God for you for reminding us that. You are such a blessing.

  7. 1 Cor 7:32 (NKJV)
But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord–how he may please the Lord.

This is so straight forward, the business of an unmarried person is to please the Lord. In that is rest and no anxiety.

Thanks Mumbua for this insightful piece. Kudos
